UK, Welsh 3000s Challenge

Three days of fantastically rugged hill walking covering over 25 miles and more than ??m of ascent. Day one will take in the Snowdon massive, day 2 the Glyders summits and day 3 finishing off on the Carneddi. This is the perfect opportunity to claim all of the Welsh 3000ft summits.

Welsh 3000's Challenge

In order to complete the Welsh 3000's Challenge you are required to have been at the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of mechanical transport. The peaks are:

Snowdon

Crib y Ddysgl

Crib Goch

Elidir Fawr

Y Garn

Glyder Fawr

Glyder Fach

Tryfan

Pen yr Ole Wen

Carnedd Dafydd

Carnedd Llewelyn

Yr Elen

Foel Grach

Garned Uchaff

Foel Fras

Imp Adventures recognises this traditional challenge but deems it impractical for most mixed groups and instead opts to cover the challenge over two long days instead, thereby giving every participant the satisfaction of completing the route albeit at a slightly (and I mean slightly), more sedate pace. This schedule also allows for a far more enjoyable and rewarding challenge that does not take anything away from the hill-walking ethos and tranquility of the Welsh mountains.

The length is about 25 miles, and most hill walkers should easily manage the challenge over a normal weekend.

How difficult is it?

You don't need to be a fell runner. Many people walk this, However, it's not easy – it's a big step up from something like the “Three Peaks Challenge”.

It's very rocky, and both uphill and downhill sections are demanding. Navigation can also be problematic without previous knowledge of this area of Snowdonia. Additionally, one mountain, 'Crib Goch', is very exposed and requires a good head for heights.

This isn't something that everybody can handle. But if you're an experienced hill walker with a good head for heights and a sound resolve you should be able to complete the challenge over two long and tiring days. Imp Adventures will take the hassle out of the challenge and try and ensure that everybody succeeds and has a rewarding and enjoyable experience, if a very tiring one!
