Fancy a real challenge? Enjoy hill walking? Up for some serious Mountain Biking?
Then this ‘beast’ of an adventure is for YOU!

Dales Tough-Man Challenge

  • Fancy a real challenge?
  • Enjoy hill walking?
  • Up for some serious Mountain Biking?

Then this ‘beast’ of an adventure is for YOU!

The Yorkshire Dales has some of the most stunning countryside in the UK and also some fantastic mountain bike trails. This challenge incorporates both these activities in one superb adrenaline-pumping, action packed weekend.

Our adventure starts in the small village of Horton in Ribblesdale where we will have 12 hours (max) to complete the famous 39km route, which also includes over 1700 meters of ascent. climbing to the summits of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-Y-Ghent.

Successful completion of this challenge entitles you to join the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Club and you will receive a certificate and badge to prove this achievement.

This challenge is not particularly ‘hard’ but does require a good level of fitness, stamina and a ‘large dose of determination’! Following completion of the first test of endurance, we will retire to the comparative luxury of our Dales ‘Base-Camp’ where we will take a well earned rest and enjoy the hospitality of one of England’s best outdoor-orientated hostelries.

Sunday arrives all to soon, as the sun cracks through the curtains and the birds herald the start of a new day, we must “man-up” and motivate ourselves to successfully complete the second part of our Tough Man challenge.

Mountain biking is the UK’s fastest growing sport and in a matter of years we have now over 60 purpose-built trail centres to enjoy. Mountain biking offers the perfect activity to combine fitness with fun and adventure, combined with a serious rush of adrenaline.

Following a hearty breakfast, washed down with plenty of Yorkshire tea, we don our helmets and jump onto our mountain bikes, (off road, not urban) and start our challenge.

On the doorstep of our ‘Base-Camp’ is Gisburn Forest. A forestry commission initiative which has seen the development of over 40 kms of fantastic biking routes from easy family trails through to gravity assisted, ‘seat of your pants’ black routes!! Our objective will be the “Best of Gisburn”, 18km of fast flowing purpose –built bike trails, with bermed corners, boardwalk, smooth jumps and fluid single track.

You will be led round this route in approximately 2 ½ hours, ensuring maximum time is spent enjoying the ride and not wasted with complex route-finding and navigational difficulties.

On successful completion of this adventure-packed weekend, you will have travelled (by pedal or puff power!) 57km and climbed over 2000 meters of ascent, which is a remarkable achievement and one to be justifiably proud of!
